OnlyTrails is built around a simple principle: your trail data, location history, and navigation should be private by default. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not track you across other websites or apps.

Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we store your email address, display name, username, and encrypted password hash (or federated authentication identifier).

Location Data: GPS location is processed on-device during navigation to determine your position relative to the trail, provide off-route warnings, and record tracks. Location coordinates are only sent to our servers when you explicitly save a completed activity, publish a trail, or start a live sharing session.

Photos & Markings: Photos and trail hazard markings you upload are linked to the corresponding trail or activity and stored securely.

Diagnostics & Telemetry: Anonymous aggregate telemetry (battery consumption, GPS satellite accuracy rates, app responsiveness, and rendering time) is collected only if you opt in to help improve battery life and performance. It never includes diagnostic stack traces.

Third-Party Services

We use MapTiler and OpenStreetMap for map tiles, and Open-Meteo for local trailhead weather forecasts.
